Birth Doula
A doula is a professional who is trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.
Labor
Beginning two weeks before your expected due date, I am officially on call for your labor. This means that I do not travel outside of the Michigan area and my phone is on and ready to be answered at all times. As you begin to progress into labor we will arrange for me to meet you at your residence, public location, a birthing center or hospital.
Free Consultation
Our initial consultation is always free. This is a one hour meeting where get to know each other and find out if I am the right fit for you and your partner. If you choose me as a doula we will talk about services, packages, fees and sign contract.
Breastfeeding Help
As a doula Lorie has knowledge & experience in breastfeeding. She breastfeed both her children for 12 months. She also attended a training course called Breastfeeding Basics for Doulas. Lorie is able to offer information and resources for breastfeeding as needed.
Prenatal Visits
I will meet with you during your pregnancy. During these meetings we will discuss your pregnancy, birth preferences, strategies for labor, ways support person can encourage, a postpartum plan, and any concerns you may have. I also make myself available to you by phone or email 24/7.
Postpartum Visits
After your birth, I will also make a home visit in the postpartum period. During this visit we can discuss your perspective on how your birth went, address any personal, mental, emotional, or breastfeeding concerns. I will refer you to any community resources if needed. Extra postpartum hours are available for an additional fee.
